James is the Manager of the Financial Market Policy team at the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment. His team is responsible for financial services regulation in New Zealand, including the recent large reforms of financial market regulation and the review of the Financial Advisers Act. This work has included the creation of the regulatory frameworks for equity crowdfunding, peer-to-peer lending and the current development of regulation for robo-advice. He has previously worked as a diplomat at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and as a lawyer in private practice.
